Some guy just sent me an email - this is seriously out of the blue, I have no idea who he is - asking if I'm interested in a faculty position in a new game design program they're starting. It sounds incredibly awesome . . . except it's in Arizona, and I'm not exactly prepared to move out there (and drop out of school, and etcetera) for some university I've only heard of once or twice. Nevertheless, I'm hideously flattered and this email has definitely made my day. This is the second full-time job I've been offered in the last two months, so I'm also reassured that I won't face the usual graduate-student crisis of having a degree but no potential jobs.

In any case, I'm going to follow up enough to show him that I'm interested, on the theory that if they still have jobs open once I get my doctorate, they'll probably pay me a lot more (and maybe after several more years of New York City, a little R&R in Arizona might not sound so bad).

thran: Mmm.

I love the Southwest. It's so pretty. They've got, like, mountains. That you can see. From you window, sometimes. :)

Ooooo. Pretty!

(Assuming I manage to get some vacation this year, the boy and I are heading down there for hiking. I can't wait!)

Being that you get these offers, and I can see your potential once you makethe leapto whatever post-study career you take(in Academia or elsewheres), can you just say you knew me back when?

Nope, I can say that I still know you and think you're awesome. Assuming that's okay with you. :)
