I'm pretty sure my new downstairs neighbor is an opera singer. I can hear her practicing her scales and arias very faintly - not loud enough to be annoying, just loud enough to be a pleasant accompaniment to midterm-writing.

I kind of want to go down and meet her now, and tell her how much pleasure her voice brings me. But that would be weird, right? :)

I don't think it would be weird. I think she would take it as a compliment. Plus the fact that it will let her know that she is not disturbing you.

then again, i’m not a New Yorker :p

Yeah . . . I probably would have introduced myself already without thinking twice, except for a recent conversation I had with someone else in the building. When I moved in, I had a housewarming party and invited everyone in the building. A couple of people came - and a year later, one of the people who didn't come approached me and said that she wanted to meet me now that she was sure I wasn't totally psycho for inviting the whole building. It took her a YEAR to get over my invitation of the building. A year!! So I'm a little leery of being too nice, 'cause I don't want to be "that psycho friendly girl." Gotta have that New York attitude.

No, you're a girl, it would be pleasant, I would think.
